SEMPORNA: Police detained an 18-year-old following an alleged break-in and assault involving a China tourist at a resort in Semporna on Saturday.
The incident believed to have occurred at about 3am on September 19 in a guest room at a resort along Jalan Kamiri.
District Police Chief, Superintendent Tan Hiap Wah said initial investigations found that the 25-year-old woman, was asleep in her room when she noticed the presence of the man inside.
The suspect allegedly held her hand and pulled part of her clothing before a struggle took place between the two.
“The victim managed to leave the room and hide in the bushes at a surrounding area before being found by resort staff the following morning.
“The victim claimed the man had pulled her hair while she was running away, causing her to fall,” he said.
A team from the Criminal Investigation Division detained the suspect.
“The case is being investigated under Section 448 of the Penal Code for trespassing and Section 354 for assault or the use of criminal force with intent to outrage a person’s modesty,” he said.
