THE Senate commended the Philippine delegation to the 13th Asean Para Games, with Senator Christopher “Bong” Go underscoring the country’s historic medal performance, the growing competitiveness of Filipino para-athletes, and the need for sustained legislative support to further promote inclusivity in sports.
As chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sports, Go formally sponsored Senate Resolution No.263, which congratulates and commends the national delegation for its performance in the regional multi-sport event held in Thailand. The resolution was taken into consideration together with the proposed Senate Resolution Nos. 268 and 273, all principally sponsored by Go.
“As chairman of the Committee on Sports, it is with great pride and honor that I sponsor this Senate resolution honoring the Philippine delegation who have competed and shown exemplary performance in the 13th Asean Para Games held in Thailand,” Go said during the plenary session.
Team Philippines recorded its best-ever finish in the Asean Para Games, placing fourth overall after collecting a total of 134 medals. The delegation won 45 gold, 37 silver, and 52 bronze medals, marking the country’s highest gold medal haul and strongest overall showing in the history of the competition.
“Team Philippines delivered a commendable and inspiring performance. Bolstered by an impressive haul of forty-five gold medals, our delegation proudly finished fourth overall, affirming the country’s growing strength and competitiveness in para sports at the regional level. It is our best finish ever in the multi-sporting event,” Go said.
The senator said the medal tally reflected not only individual excellence but also the depth and resilience of Filipino para-athletes across multiple disciplines. “Beyond the gold medals, the Philippine delegation also secured 37 silver medals and 52 bronze medals, bringing the total medal count to 134. This remarkable achievement reflects not only athletic excellence, but also the depth, resilience, and fighting spirit of Filipino para-athletes,” he added.
Go also emphasized the broader significance of the delegation’s achievement, noting that success in para sports helps advance inclusivity and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. He reiterated the Senate’s commitment to supporting programs, policies, and funding that will strengthen grassroots development, athlete welfare, and access to training and competition for para-athletes.
“With that, I express my warm regards and sincere appreciation to the entire Philippine delegation that took part in the 13th edition of the Asean Para Games,” Go said, adding that their achievements continue to inspire the nation and highlight the importance of inclusive sports development.
