KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has called in a senior armed forces officer to assist in an ongoing investigation into alleged misuse of funds.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the officer arrived at the commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya at about 11am today to have his statement recorded.

“We called him in this morning to assist in the investigation. At this point, no arrest has been made and his statement is still being recorded,” Azam said when contacted, as reported by the New Straits Times (NST).

Azam said it was sufficient to state that the officer was called in to help clarify issues related to allegations of fund misuse, adding that MACC would update the public if there were further developments.

Previously, Azam had confirmed that another senior military officer is under investigation and is expected to be charged soon in a separate corruption case, subject to approval from the Attorney-General.

He said investigations into that case were nearing completion and involved alleged corruption linked to the Defence Ministry.

Asked about the severity of the case and the amount involved, Azam said the figures could not yet be disclosed, but stressed that the seniority of the officer concerned was a key factor.

He also clarified that the current investigation is separate from the probe involving a former army chief. – January 11, 2026
