Senior citizen arrives as early as 6.45am to fulfil voting responsibility

KULAI – Determined to fulfil his responsibility as a Malaysian citizen, a senior citizen became the first voter to arrive at the polling centre at SJKC Kulai Besar as early as 6.45am on Saturday.

Gan Hin, 70, said he chose to arrive early so he could cast his vote quickly before reporting for work as a plantation worker in Indahpura.

He said his employer had also given him the flexibility to vote first before starting work at 7.30am.

"I came early so I could vote quickly and head straight to work. My boss also told me to vote first before reporting for duty," he said.

Meanwhile, lorry driver C. Muniandi, 39, said he had initially planned not to vote due to work commitments.

However, he changed his mind after realising the importance of fulfilling his civic duty as a Malaysian.

"I arrived as early as 6.50am because I wanted to finish voting quickly and then go to work.

"At first, I thought of going straight to work, but I eventually realised that voting is a responsibility as a Malaysian citizen," he said.

A check at the polling centre at SJKC Kulai Besar, under the Bukit Batu state constituency, found the atmosphere to be calm, with voters willing to queue early to ensure the voting process went smoothly before continuing with their daily routines.
