Kota Kinabalu: A senior student told the Coroner’s Court on Monday that she had apologised several times to Zara Qairina Mahathir out of pity before the 13-year-old’s death in July.

Counsel Rizwandean M Borhan said the 11th child deponent, who is the 20th witness in the inquest, met Zara two or three times in the dormitory to apologise on behalf of the senior students from a group called Circle 19.

He said the student felt sorry for Zara after seeing her appear sad, disappointed, and under pressure each time she was summoned by the seniors.

The student also told the court she had apologised to other juniors who were similarly called by the group.

She added that she often comforted Zara after these encounters, saying she understood how it felt as she had gone through a similar experience herself.
