Kota Kinabalu: A 39-year-old man, Arsadi Maulana, was tentatively charged at the Magistrate’s Court for trafficking 86.09 grammes of syabu.

No plea was recorded when the charge was read before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin.

Arsadi is accused of committing the offence on Sept 27, this year, at 8pm, in front of a building at PPR Taman Sri Keramat, Jalan Ketiau Tombovo, Putatan.

The charge, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

The court set Nov 24 for mention, pending the chemist’s report.

Arsadi was ordered to remain in custody as the offence is non-bailable.

In another case, a 32-year-old man was charged with insulting a woman’s modesty by flashing his private parts at her last month.

Md Zainal Abdul Momen pleaded not guilty to having exposed himself to the 20-year-old woman at 8pm on Sept 20 this year, at a shop in Alam Mesra.

He was charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.

The court fixed Nov 24 for pre-trial case management.

The court released the accused on bail of RM2,000 in two sureties and ordered him to report to the investigating officer once a month.
