Sergeant suspected of soliciting bribe arrested

KUANTAN - A police sergeant from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of Jerantut District Police Headquarters (IPD) has been detained for investigations into corruption.

The 35-year-old suspect was arrested after testifying at the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) Temerloh office at 11.15pm yesterday.

The man was brought to the Temerloh Magistrate's Court today to receive remand order.

Magistrate Tuan Mohamed Shah Reza Noor Azman ordered the suspect to be remanded for seven days from today (Thursday) until March 8.

The suspect was charged for seeking a bribe of RM1,000 as incentive to stop any further action againsts a man's son who had been sentenced with a first offence of consuming ketum.

The complainant claimed to have contacted the sergeant on Feb 28 when he was at Jerantut Court to pay for his son's fine.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
