TAWAU: Seven men aged between 20 and 49 were arrested on Monday for allegedly brawling inside a restaurant on Jalan Haji Karim early Sunday morning.
Tawau Deputy Police Chief Supt. Champin Piuh said the suspects were detained separately between 2.50am and 8pm at their homes around town.
"Three of them have past criminal and drug-related records — one with 10, another with six, and one with two prior offences in Peninsular Malaysia," he said.
The case is being investigated under Sections 147 and 427 of the Penal Code for rioting and mischief.
The restaurant owner, 37, lodged a police report after being informed by a worker via WhatsApp. CCTV footage showed two groups of men fighting and using chairs as weapons.
Damage to the restaurant, including broken chairs and a plate, was estimated at RM200. A 1-minute-23-second video of the fight has since gone viral on social media.
