
Kota Kinabalu: The number of sexual offence cases involving minors in Sabah appears headed for a new record this year if the 22 cases – nearly half the total last year – brought before the courts in just the first two months this year alone. is any indication.
Of this, 17 involved rape while the rest other forms of sexual harassment. Some of the cases were new pleas, some are pending trial while in others, the accused were given a discharge not amounting to acquittal.
Last year, 56 cases were heard and what is scary is that the sex predators in the majority of instances were family members or known to the victims.
