Kota Kinabalu: Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pic) said the proposed concert by American Christian artist Israel Houghton and his band should be allowed to proceed subject to the required approvals and regulations.
He said supporting the freedom of Christians in Sabah to attend the gathering did not mean endorsing every personal or political view held by the artist or performer.
Shafie said authorities should implement regulations fairly, with any legal obstacles clearly stated and reasonable security concerns addressed by police to maintain public safety.
He said Sabah’s tradition of people of different faiths living together should be upheld, including respecting the freedom to gather, pray, sing and organise religious programmes as long as they comply with the law.
Shafie urged the relevant authorities to facilitate the event once all requirements were met, while calling on all parties to exercise self-restraint and mutual respect.
