PH candidate Sharon Teo targets infrastructure and public welfare as key issues in her campaign for the Permas state seat.
JOHOR BAHRU: Infrastructure development and public welfare are at the heart of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Sharon Teo’s campaign for the Permas state seat in the 16th Johor state election.
The Johor Amanah Women’s Youth (Warda) chief said these concerns are consistently raised by residents during her visits to the ground, and she is determined to act on them.
“Road quality around this constituency is something I will prioritise, because it’s a matter of public safety,” she told Bernama after the nomination process at Dewan Muafakat, Taman Mawar here today.
Sharon Teo, who previously served as an aide in the Pulai parliamentary constituency under the late Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub, said the manifesto outlining her vision and mission for Permas voters will be unveiled soon.
Meanwhile, incumbent Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Baharudin Mohamed Taib, who won the seat in the 2022 Johor election, is bracing for a tough fight to defend his mandate.
“Each of my opponents has their own strengths, so I cannot afford to take them lightly. I have to work hard to secure a BN victory. This is no easy task,” he said.
On his offerings to voters, Baharudin said he will not be launching a personal manifesto. Instead, he will be guided by the ‘Manifesto Tekad BN Johor’ that has already been presented to the public.
The Permas state constituency is seeing a four-cornered contest involving Sharon Teo (PH), Baharudin (BN), T. Vela from Perikatan Nasional (PN), and Dr Zamil Najwah from Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).
Located within the Pasir Gudang parliamentary constituency, Permas has 113,963 eligible voters for this state election.
The Johor state election will take place on July 11, with early voting on July 7.
