Kota Kinabalu: The award of two major deepwater contracts by Sabah Shell Petroleum Company (SSPC) is expected to provide opportunities for local vendors to strengthen their participation in Sabah’s oil and gas industry.
The contracts cover the Malikai Phase 3 Mooring System and SSPC’s deepwater operations and maintenance services, supporting the company’s activities in Sabah’s offshore waters.
The importance of local vendor participation was highlighted at the SSPC Deepwater Contract Award Ceremony held at Plaza Shell here recently, which was attended by Sabah Assistant Finance Minister Dato’ Sr Mohd Ishak Ayub.
Ishak, who is also Bingkor assemblyman, attended the ceremony officiated by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun.
Shell Malaysia’s emphasis on involving Sabah-based vendors was seen as an opportunity for local companies to gain greater access to the oil and gas supply chain, including business opportunities linked to offshore operations.
Greater participation by local companies could also help them build technical capabilities, develop specialised expertise and expand their business capacity to meet the requirements of the industry.
