Signal No. 2  raised over 6 Luzon areas as Maymay intensifies into storm —Pagasa

Six Luzon areas have been placed under Signal No. 2 as Maymay intensified into a tropical storm, state weather bureau Pagasa said in its severe weather bulletin early Wednesday morning.

According to Pagasa, Tropical Storm (TS) Maymay was spotted at 170 km west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, and slowly moving southeastward.

Signal No. 2 was raised over  six areas, including:

the central and southern portions of Ilocos Sur (Gregorio del Pilar, Magsingal, San Esteban, Banayoyo, Cervantes, Burgos, City of Candon, Santa Lucia, Santiago, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, Lidlidda, Nagbukel, Suyo, Sigay, San Ildefonso, Galimuyod, Quirino, City of Vigan, San Emilio, Caoayan, Alilem, San Juan, Santa, Bantay, Santo Domingo, Sugpon, Tagudin, Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, Narvacan, Salcedo)the northern and central portions of La Union (Luna, Caba, Santol, Bauang, City of San Fernando, San Juan, Bagulin, Aringay, Bangar, San Gabriel, Burgos, Naguilian, Bacnotan, Sudipen, Balaoan)the northwestern portion of Pangasinan (Anda, Bolinao, Bani)the southwestern portion of Abra (Manabo, Pidigan, Langiden, Luba, Boliney, Sallapadan, Bucloc, Tubo, Villaviciosa, Pilar, Peñarrubia, San Isidro, San Quintin, Bangued, Bucay)the western portion of Mountain Province (Besao, Tadian)the northwestern portion of Benguet (Mankayan, Kapangan, Kibungan, Sablan, Bakun)

Maymay was forecast to move generally eastward and may make landfall over Ilocos Sur or La Union by Wednesday afternoon or evening. Afterwards, it will cross the landmass of Northern and Central Luzon until Thursday.

According to PAGASA, Maymay is forecast to remain a tropical storm as it approaches the Philippine landmass. After making landfall, it will weaken into a tropical depression by Thursday morning and may be downgraded further into a low-pressure area in the afternoon or evening.

Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Mountain Province, and Abra will experience stormy conditions due to the tropical storm.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides in areas experiencing moderate to heavy and sometimes intense rains.

Cagayan Valley, the rest of Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Tarlac, and Nueva Ecija would experience rain and gusty winds due to Maymay.

The rest of Central Luzon would have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon.

The rest of the country would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. (TMT)
