MANILA, Philippines — Signal No. 2 is up in at least 6 provinces in Northern Luzon where slow-moving Tropical Storm "Maymay" continues to bring rain as it strengthens the southwest monsoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Wednesday.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, "Maymay" is now located 185 kilometers west-northwest of Bacnotan, La Union and is moving northward at 10 kilometers per hour (kph), with maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.
Signal No. 2 is up in Ilocos Sur, the northern and central portions of La Union (Luna, Caba, Santol, Bauang, City of San Fernando, San Juan, Bagulin, Aringay, Bangar, San Gabriel, Burgos, Naguilian, Bacnotan, Sudipen, Balaoan), the northwestern portion of Pangasinan (Anda, Bolinao, Bani), the southwestern portion of Abra (Manabo, Pidigan, Langiden, Luba, Boliney, Sallapadan, Bucloc, Tubo, Villaviciosa, Pilar, Peñarrubia, San Isidro, San Quintin, Bangued, Bucay, Danglas, La Paz, Tayum), the western portion of Mountain Province (Besao, Tadian, Bauko, Sagada, Sabangan), and the northwestern portion of Benguet (Mankayan, Kapangan, Kibungan, Sablan, Bakun).
These areas should expect wind speeds of 62 to 88 kph with possible minor to moderate threat to life and property.
Signal No. 1 is up in Ilocos Norte, the rest of La Union, the rest of Pangasinan, Apayao, the rest of Abra, Kalinga, the rest of Mountain Province, Ifugao, the rest of Benguet, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the northern portion of Zambales (Candelaria, Santa Cruz, Masinloc, Palauig), the northern portion of Tarlac (Mayantoc, San Clemente, Camiling, Santa Ignacia, Gerona, Paniqui, Moncada, San Manuel, Anao, Ramos, Pura), the northern portion of Nueva Ecija (Carranglan, Lupao, Cuyapo, Talugtug, Nampicuan, Guimba, Science City of Muñoz, San Jose City, Pantabangan), and the northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao).
Wind speeds of 39 to 61 kph with minimal to minor threat to life and property are expected in these areas.
Maymay-induced heavy rains of up to 200 millimeters are expected in the provinces of La Union and Benguet from Wednesday to Thursday afternoon.
Rains from 100 to 200 millimeters are expected in the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, Abra, and Zambales, while 50-100 mm rains will be expected in Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Pampanga, and Bulacan from Wednesday to Thursday afternoon.
By 8 p.m. on Wednesday, "Maymay" will be located 75 kilometers northwest of Bacnotan, La Union, while moving eastwards toward the vicinity of Bontoc, Mountain Province by Thursday morning as a tropical depression, and in the vicinity of San Mariano, Isabela by Thursday evening as a low pressure area.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro should expect 50-100 mm rains due to the southwest monsoon.
