THE accused R Suresh Khanna, 47, entered the plea at the Seremban Sessions Court earlier today after the charge was read before Judge Datin Surita Budin.
According to the charge, Suresh is accused of intentionally causing serious injury to B Nagarajah, 40, using a machete at about 8.10pm on 14 April.
The offence is classified under Section 326 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, along with a possible fine or whipping.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni requested that no bail be granted, citing the severity of the alleged offence and the current distress experienced by the victim's family.
“The offence is serious and the victim’s family remains fearful,” she told the court.
However, Suresh’s defence lawyer, Thayalan Moorthy, appealed for bail on the grounds that his client is a local resident with a fixed address in Port Dickson, poses no flight risk, and is willing to fully cooperate with legal proceedings.
“Suresh is married with three children. I urge the court to allow bail at a lower amount. He also suffers from several medical conditions including hypertension and gout,” Thayalan said.
“He works as a site manager at a private company in Port Dickson, earning RM3,000 a month, and his family has managed to gather RM8,000 in preparation for bail,” he added.
The court granted bail at RM15,000 with one surety. Suresh was also ordered to surrender his passport, report to a nearby police station every month, and refrain from contacting the victim.
The case has been set for mention on 19 May.
Previously, local media reported that police had arrested three men in connection with the machete incident at the Seremban shopping centre.
Seremban District Police Chief ACP Mohamad Hatta Che Din confirmed the suspects, aged between 35 and 47, were apprehended around 5pm on 15 April in the Port Dickson area. – April 18, 2025
