
Kota Kinabalu: Six stilt houses at Jalan Tanjung Aru Lama in Sembulan, here, were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday.
A Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) Operations Centre spokesperson said the Tanjung Aru Community Volunteer Firemen demolished up to 80 per cent of an adjoining house to stop the spread.
More than 60 FRD personnel from four stations as far as Tuaran were deployed after receiving a 12.16pm distress call.
“Extinguishing operations involved six streams sourced from fire hydrants and engines. The situation was contained by 1.18pm and ended at 3.22pm,” the source said in a media statement.
Meanwhile, in KUNAK, 11 families were made homeless when seven house were destroyed in a fire in Kg Kunak Tiga, Wednesday.
Kunak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Chief Mohamad Omarbatha said six houses were completely destroyed, while another was five per cent burnt.
He said the fire department received an emergency call at 5.10am through the station line.
A team of firefighters led by Mohamad, along with a water tanker, EMRS vehicles and Urvan Bomba were deployed to the scene about 5km from the station.
They put out the fire using a stream with two fountains, drawing water from the tanker and a nearby fire hydrant.
No casualty was reported.
The losses and cause of the fire are still under investigation.
