
Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Karate Association (SKA) finished ninth overall in the club category at the 2nd Asian Youth Open Championship cum Training Camp hosted by Asian Karate Federation and organised by Chinese Karate Association in Linping, Hangzhou, China from August 12-16.
Despite sending only a six-member team, they managed to win two golds, one silver and two bronzes in the five-day event.
At last year’s meet held in Wuhan, China, SKA was represented by 19 athletes and finished seventh in the same category with one gold, five silvers and four bronzes.

The only silver came from Al-Zovainz Zurizal (cadet male -63kg), while the bronze medals were delivered by Muhammad Farish Danish Mohd Saidin (junior male -61kg) and Putra Rayn Nazwan Heryzuan (junior male -55kg).
The contingent was led by coaches Farlin Veroney M Frederick and Mahfudz Azeem Ag Hashim, and the other athlete in the team was Muhd Noah Hidayatullah.
