ALOR GAJAH – Police have confirmed that the remains found inside a drum at the Durian Tunggal Dam reserve near Alor Gajah, Melaka, last Sunday were human.
Alor Gajah District Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said the case is now being investigated as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
“Investigations are still ongoing. The victim’s gender and cause of death have yet to be determined. Police are also waiting for the results of the post-mortem examination, which is continuing today,” he said.
Police also found clothing with the remains, including a sarong, shirt and trousers.
Sinar Harian reported that the drum was found by three anglers aged between 25 and 35 at about 11.40am, about 15 metres from the road. Police later sought help from the Fire and Rescue Department to move it to the roadside before it was taken to the hospital for further examination.
The remains are believed to have been inside the drum for at least three weeks, based on the condition of the bones and tissue still attached to them.
