An awareness rally under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was organised at the Shalimar campus of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) to spread awareness against drug abuse and promote a healthy society.
The programme was organised by the Dean Students Welfare in collaboration with the Kashmir Jurists Bar Association.
Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, attended the event as the chief guest, while Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nighat Aman was the guest of honour.
The programme began with a welcome address by the Dean Students Welfare, followed by the felicitation of the guests.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Ganai reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting the vision of a “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir” and stressed the collective responsibility of educational institutions and society in protecting youth from substance abuse.
SSP Nighat Aman highlighted the harmful effects of drug addiction and urged students and young people to actively participate in awareness campaigns aimed at eliminating the menace from society.
She also underlined the important role of parents, particularly mothers, in preventing drug abuse among youth.
During the programme, NSS volunteers of SKUAST-K participated in an oath-taking ceremony, pledging to contribute towards building a drug-free society.
The awareness rally was later flagged off by the Vice Chancellor in the presence of faculty members, students and other participants. A large number of NSS volunteers, students, teachers and schoolchildren joined the rally, carrying placards and spreading awareness about the dangers of drug addiction.
