Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Covid-19 infections increased by five to 277 on Wednesday compared to Tuesday’s 272.
Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in a statement, here, said 12 districts recorded a decrease and nine districts recorded an increase in cases.
Five districts recorded a considerable increase, namely Sandakan 34 cases (+15), Penampang 24 cases (+10), Kuala Penyu seven cases (+6), Kota Belud nine cases (+5) and Keningau seven cases (+ 5).
Among the districts that recorded a decrease in new infections were Kota Kinabalu 84 cases (-8), Tuaran 20 cases (-7), Tawau 12 cases (-5) and Kota Marudu three cases (-4).
The number of districts that did not record any new infections increased from three districts to six districts Wednesday. But the number of districts that recorded double-digit infections remained high with eight districts, only one district less than Tuesday.
The rate of virus transmission is increasing even though it is still at a controlled rate. This can be illustrated through a higher positivity rate.
On Tuesday the total number of test samples was 3,278 with a positivity rate of 12.05 per cent which resulted in 272 new positive cases.
However on Wednesday the positivity rate increased to 12.37 per cent and although the number of test samples was lower (3,201) than Tuesday but the number of positive cases increased by five cases.
The number of daily infections is expected to remain at a high level as long as the rate of transmission does not decrease.
A total of 272 of the 277 cases recorded on Wednesday are in Category One and Two, as well as two cases in Category Three and three cases in Category Four.
