A village-level cricket tournament, dedicated to the cherished memory of Balwinder Singh (Punjab Police), was successfully organised recently by 5911 Cricket Club Rahon with the support of local residents and NRI community members.

Providing details about the event, organisers Sachin Gangar and district mass media officer Tarsem Lal stated that a total of 16 teams participated in the tournament. After a series of competitive matches, the teams of Rahon and Sloh advanced to the final.

Sloh Cricket Club, the winning team, was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh along with a trophy and mementos for the players. The runners-up, Cricket Club Rahon, received Rs 51,000, while the third and fourth-placed teams were given Rs 11,000 each along with commemorative trophies.

Manav of Sloh Cricket Club was named player of the series and received Rs 11,000 along with a memento. Harvinder of Sloh Cricket Club was declared best bowler, earning Rs 5,100 and a memento. The best batsman award also carried a cash prize of Rs 5,100.

The organisers ensured excellent arrangements throughout the event, including refreshments and other facilities for players and spectators. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from players, sports lovers, villagers and especially the younger generation.

Speaking on the occasion, Tarsem Lal emphasised that village-level sporting events play a significant role in supporting the ongoing ‘War against Drugs’ campaign by encouraging youth to engage in sports and healthy activities. “Such tournaments provide a positive platform for young people and help strengthen community bonds,” he said.
