MANILA, Philiippines — "Maymay" has weakened into a tropical depression after making landfall in Ilocos Sur early Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to its 11 a.m. bulletin, Maymay is now in the vicinity of Tanudan, Kalinga, carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph, moving slowly in a southeastward direction
Areas previously under Signal No. 2 are now under Signal No. 1. These are the southern portion of Babuyan Islands (Including the islands of Calayan, Dalupiri, Fuga and Camiguin), Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, the northwestern portion of Pangasinan (Bolinao, Anda, Bani), Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya and the northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao)
Winds of 39 to 61 kilometers per hour are expected in the next 36 hours in these areas.
Heavy rainfall is expected around the areas of Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Nueva Vizcaya.
Maymay is expected to move to 220 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora by around Thursday evening.
