Kota Kinabalu: The jump rope team from SMJK Ken Hwa, Keningau pulled off a surprise by finishing among the top five out of 59 schools competing in the 2026 National Jump Rope Competition.
The team secured fourth place in the team Figure 8 event in the mixed secondary school category, bringing pride to the school and Sabah on the national stage.
The competition was held at Sunsuria Forum, Setia Alam, Shah Alam, Selangor, from Aug 20 to 22 this year.
Coached by Stephonie Dominic, the team comprised eight Form One and Form Two students who represented Sabah in the competition.
Apart from Figure 8, the team also competed in the 4 x 30s Speed Relay event in the secondary school category.
Stephonie said she was grateful and proud of the team’s achievement in bringing the name of the school and Sabah to the winners’ podium.
She said the achievement was also a major surprise as all 59 participating schools had strong teams.
“My hope for the future is to bring more students into the sport and see more of them succeed in it,” she said.
