SMSMJ launched to strengthen youth development

TAWAU: Sukarelawan Muda Sabah Maju Jaya (SMSMJ) was officially launched on Saturday to strengthen the development of skilled, competitive and inclusive youth in line with the State Government's development agenda.

Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the initiative, introduced under his ministry, aims to cultivate integrity, leadership and volunteerism among young Sabahans while equipping them with skills and exposing them to government policies and development programmes.

He said SMSMJ, launched during the Sabah Youth Carnival 2026 held in conjunction with National Youth Day at the Tawau Sports Complex, would operate directly under the ministry rather than the Sabah Youth Council, and would be open to Sabahans aged between 18 and 30.

Nizam said the movement would not only carry out volunteer and community activities but also help disseminate information on State Government initiatives, including youth assistance programmes, while guiding the public on applications for government incentives.

SMSMJ chairman Ahmad Daniel, 21, said the organisation has attracted almost 40 volunteers and plans to expand its membership through online registration and social media platforms.
