
TAWAU: A man suspected of smuggling was detained by the Marine Police (PPM) at about 2.20am on Friday after a high-speed attempt to evade arrest from Lahad Datu to Kunak and into this district.
PPM Region Four Commander ACP Mohammad Nazri Ibrahim said the operation led to the seizure of 678,400 sticks of various brands of cigarettes and a white van, worth over RM1 million in total.
The 43-year-old foreign driver was taken into custody to assist investigations under the Customs Act 1967.

Police from the Kunak and Tawau district headquarters assisted PPM in the chase, which was captured in a one-minute-13-second video shared on PPM Sabah’s official Facebook page.
