The North Korean national anthem was accidentally played ahead of a hockey match between South Korea and Bangladesh at the Asian Games, leading South Korean officials to issue a formal complaint.
The music was quickly cut short and replaced by the Bangladesh national anthem after officials at the games, hosted in Nagano, Japan, realised their mistake.
South Korea’s hockey team looked somewhat baffled as the North Korean anthem rang out, with some doing a double take, while others continued to stand to attention.
“We plan to lodge a formal protest with the organising committee,” a Korean sport and Olympic committee spokesperson said after the game.
