Kota Kinabalu: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (StarSabah) has declared full support for its president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan’s decision to contest solo in the upcoming 17th State Election.

Star information chief Anuar Ghani (pic) said the move followed the party’s stand against Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) forming an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

He said StarSabah had initially proposed for PH to retain its seven incumbent seats under the GRS banner, but reports that 21 to 23 seats were offered to PH went against the sentiments of many Sabahans.

According to Anuar, the solo decision reflects the grassroots’ call for local parties to lead state governance without outside interference, guided by 11 core principles including “Sabah First, Rumah Kita, Kita Jaga” and a consistent struggle for rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“Star will remain with the people and continue to uphold ‘Justice for Sabah’ and ‘Sabah for Sabahan’ as the foundation of our struggle,” he said in a statement on Friday.
