Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah People’s Coalition (GRS) will remain as the Sabah State Government until the 17th State election based on the various scenarios that are happening in Sabah and the Federation.
Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) Sabah President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey G Kitingan said Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor would remain as Chief Minister because he has a majority in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN).
“The Sabah State Government will also present an anti-hopping law in the Sabah State Assembly to curb the movement of State Assembly members from one party to another,” he said.
Dr Jeffrey, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah, said this when he officiated at the Sabah Star Party Extraordinary General Meeting at the Datuk Guandee Kohoi Sokid Villa Hall here.
The extraordinary general meeting was held to make several amendments to the party constitution to strengthen party, leadership, and expand member’s opportunities to serve the people.
According to Dr Jeffrey, the people’s support for the GRS and the Federal Unity Government is also supported by the latest developments among the people who are beginning to accept the MA63 struggle agenda.
“The struggle to demand the constitutional rights of Sabah and Sarawak has become the main agenda among the leaders of political parties, especially in Sabah, including among YBs,” the Keningau MP.
Dr Jeffrey explained that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s guarantee to implement the constitutional rights of Sabah and Sarawak also strengthened the confidence of the people of Sabah in the GRS Government.
The guarantee, said Dr Jeffrey, is an achievement of Star’s struggle after the demand for constitutional rights was seen as a legal offense during the previous government under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey encouraged his party’s grassroots leaders to look critically at themselves rather than only at others.
“We want our leaders to work hard; we do not want them to just complain and do nothing, we want them to be proactive and look critically at themselves, not just at others, so they can perform their roles more effectively,” he said.
“The important thing is that we continuously reconnect with our grassroots leaders and to make sure they understand where we are today, and where we are going tomorrow.
“All the advantages are with the party if only we capitalise on this advantages to strengthen it so that our struggle can be achieved.
“When the struggle is achieved our people will benefit, the country will benefit and then we can then move forward to achieve our dreams, our ultimate goal to be on our own,” he said.
He also expressed his delight that grassroots leaders are enthusiastic and supportive of the amendments.
“Of course, we welcome differences of opinion and we understand their expression.
“What we need to do now is to move forward and to prepare for the next battle which is coming in another two years’ time. We want our leaders to be prepared for that,” he said.
