Kota Kinabalu: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star Sabah) will pursue the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) demands at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as a last resort if the agreement is not fully implemented.
Its President Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said it was time for the Federal Government to fulfil all MA63 demands after 63 years of Malaysia’s formation.
“This is the new narrative of our struggle. We want the Federal Government to fulfil the MA63 demands entirely. We have been independent for 63 years, yet many aspects of MA63 remain unresolved.
“In any agreement, if it is not fully executed, the agreement itself becomes void. Therefore, if MA63 is not fully implemented, we will take this issue to the ICJ,” he said at Star Sabah’s 10th Anniversary Celebration, hereJeffrey, who is also Tambunan Assemblyman and Keningau MP, said Sabah, Sarawak and the Federation of Malaya were established as equal partners under MA63, stressing that Sabahans should understand the history behind the formation of Malaysia.
“The people of Sabah should be aware of this history. Under MA63, our status is equal to that of Sarawak and the Federation of Malaya.
“We in Star Sabah will continue to fight to uphold this equal status,” he said.
He also urged the Federal Government to fully implement Sabah’s rights under the Federal Constitution, including the allocation of 40pc of federal revenue to Sabah.
On Star Sabah’s political future, Jeffrey said the party’s less-than-encouraging performance in the recent state election (PRN) had not dampened its resolve to continue fighting for Sabah and its people.
“Our struggle is not over. Our mission is to see Sabah progress, prosper and independent,” he said.
Jeffrey also called for greater unity among Sabah’s local political parties to safeguard the State’s interests.
“We want local parties to be united in advocating for the rights and interests of the people of Sabah,” he said.
The celebration was also attended by Deputy President Datuk Kenny Chua, Acting Deputy President Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, Datuk Mohd Ishak Ayub and Secretary-General Senator Datuk Edward Linggu.
