SHAH ALAM, Aug 20 - Selangor defended their SUKMA men’s futsal gold after defeating Penang 4-1 in the final at the Youth and Sports Complex in Section 21 here tonight.
The final also saw the match halted just 10 minutes in over a safety issue.
The overwhelming presence of local supporters, especially Selangor fans that thronged the complex, put the number of spectators beyond the venue’s capacity, prompting the management to ensure attendees’ safety before the match resumed.
After a 15-minute interval, the game went on with both sides exchanging attacks to make the first goal.
Selangor supporters were shocked when Penang scored two minutes before the first half ended.
The 0-1 score didn’t break Selangor’s spirit, however, as the hosts fought back in the second half with strategy.
Their efforts paid off when Selangor scored an equaliser just two minutes into the second half, and with only eight minutes left in the game, Fitri Hakim netted the second goal.
Before Penang could recover, they were punished again two minutes later when Fitri again scored.
Selangor then pressed on, netting a fourth goal with Fitri’s hattrick.
