The setting up of the Bulk Drug Park in Polian village of Haroli sub-division has received a boost, with the state government granting administrative and financial approval of Rs 28.51 crore for developing a 20 Mega Volt Ampere power infrastructure. The installation will ensure an adequate and uninterrupted supply of electricity to the units proposed to be set up in the park.

In an official press release quoting Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, the state government is swiftly implementing its responsibilities for basic infrastructure development, including provision of land, electricity, water and road connectivity, so that the project of national importance can begin production without delay.

Agnihotri said the Rs 2,000 crore project is one of three such projects being developed in the country to produce Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), the basic raw material for the pharmaceutical industry. Currently, India largely depends on foreign countries to meet domestic demand for API. He informed that the Centre and State governments are funding Rs 1,000 crore each for the Polian park.

The Deputy Chief Minister said Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has already laid the foundation stones for various site development works, which are being implemented at a cost of Rs 250 crore. Besides, drinking water schemes for the drug park have been completed at a cost of Rs 66 crore. He added that, keeping in view the future requirement of water for domestic and industrial use, a Rs 175 crore project is underway.

Agnihotri said the Bulk Drug Park project will provide a new identity to the Haroli Assembly constituency at the national and international level, as drugs manufactured here will serve humanity both within and outside the country. He added that the park will provide direct employment to youth and indirectly enhance the local economy.
