KUDAT: The State Government is ready to enter a new phase of development, shifting from maintaining political stability to unlocking Sabah’s full potential under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 roadmap.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the first five years of his administration focused on political stability, financial consolidation, administrative strengthening, investor confidence, state rights, and reviving stalled projects.
Speaking at the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) 2026 Convention at Tun Mustapha Hall on Sunday, Hajiji stressed that political stability is meaningless if bread-and-butter issues remain unresolved, reminding leaders that voters elected them to deliver solutions, not excuses.
He noted that the state's revenue, which has risen to RM7 billion annually, must be channelled directly back to the people through development, economic opportunities, and education.
Acknowledging persistent basic infrastructure deficits in water, roads, and electricity, Hajiji highlighted that major works are underway under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), including 173 Public Works Department development projects and 77 water supply initiatives.
On State rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), the GRS chairman affirmed that financial and economic claims remain a top priority, backed by complete legal, technical, and financial data during negotiations with the Federal Government.
He added that economic gains from sectors like oil and gas, alongside expanded welfare and education initiatives, must translate into tangible benefits for all Sabahans, particularly those in rural and interior communities.
