GRS component parties must stay united: LDP

KUDAT: Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Chin Su Phin (pic) has urged all Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) component parties to reinforce unity, uphold political maturity, and work collectively towards a stable and prosperous Sabah.

Speaking at the GRS Convention 2026 here, Chin said the people of Sabah expect a stable and responsible government dedicated to resolving daily livelihood issues rather than engaging in prolonged political infighting.

He stressed that component parties within the ruling coalition must view each other as partners sharing equal responsibility to protect Sabah's interests rather than as political rivals.

Chin highlighted that political unity among local parties is essential to strengthening Sabah's bargaining position with the Federal Government on key matters, including the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), basic infrastructure, and development allocations.

He noted, however, that advocating firmly for state entitlements should focus on constructive cooperation and balanced national development rather than confrontation with Putrajaya.

Emphasising the state's diverse society, Chin stated that all communities must receive equal opportunities to participate in Sabah's economic progress so that no group feels neglected.

He also stressed that the real success of development policies, including the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 framework, must be measured by tangible improvements in essential amenities such as reliable water supply, stable electricity, and safe road networks.

Chin reaffirmed LDP's commitment to the coalition under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, calling on all member parties to remain close to the grassroots and address local concerns consistently.
