Kota Kinabalu: Tourism watchers at the World Tourism Conference 2022 here cautioned Sabah against placing too much hope on Chinese tourists in the post-Coid19 pandemic era.
United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, Harry Hwang, said Sabah needs to cast its net to other regions within its neighbourhood, rather than the over-dependent on a single market like the China.
“I have no message for the China government with regard to its Zero Covid Policy and yet-to-be opened tourism market, but my advice to tourist receiving markets like Sabah, which has enjoyed a huge influx of China tourists in the past, is to diversify and balance its tourism market by attracting more tourists from other countries,” he said.
