State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said close collaboration is crucial to understanding and addressing the challenges faced by the industry.

I am confident that with your hard work, we can achieve that,” said Liew during the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association’s (MCTA) Chinese New Year dinner, here, on Monday.
To foster collaboration, Liew invited the tourism players to attend the Sabah Government’s Chinese New Year Open House on Feb 10 at the Sabah International Convention Centre, here.
“You are invited to the open house starting from 10am to 2pm. We have reserved 20 tables for all tourism players. So come together to enjoy the merriment and strengthen relationships,” she said.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Josie Lai expressed appreciation to MCTA for their dedication to promoting cultural exchange and fostering ties among communities.
“It is through such initiatives that we build bridges, create lasting connections and celebrate the diversity that makes Malaysia and Sabah truly unique,” she said.
Sabah, Lai said, is known for its breath-taking landscapes, rich biodiversity and diverse cultures, and has been steadily making its mark as a premier tourist destination.
“However, as we proudly celebrate our achievements, it is crucial to acknowledge the challenges that the global tourism industry has faced, especially in light of recent events.”
She said the Covid-19 pandemic has presented obstacles, but it has also highlighted the resilience of the tourism community in Sabah.
“As the economy is rapidly recovering, I must say, one key contributor to this success has been the tireless effort of MCTA members.
“I understand that through their innovative strategies and unwavering commitment, MCTA has played a pivotal role in bringing immense economic growth to Sabah.
“Their dedication to providing quality services and promoting Sabah as a top-tier tourist destination has not only attracted a growing number of visitors but also positioned Sabah prominently on the global tourism map,” said Lai.
MCTA Life Honorary President Dato’ Albert Tan praised the Sabah Government for consistently promoting tourism in the region through Tourism Malaysia and STB at travel fairs overseas.
“I’ve just returned from China to promote tourism. China is keen on exploring Malaysia, thanks to the 50 years of friendship between our nations.
“I applaud Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing’s efforts, which enabled Malaysians to enjoy visa-free travel to China for 30 days, reciprocated with a 15-day visa-free policy for Chinese visitors,” said Tan.
Also present were Indonesia Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu Rafail Walangitan, Sabah Convention Bureau Chief Executive Officer Noredah Othman, Tourism Malaysia Sabah Deputy Director Trecey J Tojuka and MCTA Sabah Chairman Vincent Sia.
