Student allegedly bullied over ice-throwing incident chases peers with paper cutter in Melaka school

A FORM one student from a school in Alor Gajah was allegedly involved in a school incident where he chased three classmates while holding a paper cutter had reportedly been subjected to repeated bullying, including having ice thrown at him, police said.

Alor Gajah district police chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar said the incident occurred at about 2.50pm on Wednesday during a co-curricular session held as part of a student attendance appreciation programme at the school's open hall.

Initial investigations found that two male students, aged 13 and 14, had allegedly repeatedly thrown ice towards the 13-year-old student, who later reacted in anger.

“Unable to control his anger, the suspect took a paper cutter from his pencil case before chasing one of the victims for about 50 metres towards the school surau area. Two other students who were with the victim also ran away, fearing they could become targets. The incident was also recorded by the school’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras,” he said.

Ahmad said a teacher who became aware of the situation acted quickly and managed to calm the student down before he released the paper cutter.

He added that the teacher's intervention prevented the situation from escalating into a more serious incident.

“No students or teachers were injured. The three victims later returned to the school hall after the situation was brought under control. The student’s family was subsequently called to the school before he was taken home,” he said.

Police investigations also found that all students involved had previous disciplinary records since the beginning of the school year.

Ahmad said the student who carried out the act was also receiving treatment at the Psychiatry and Mental Health Department of Melaka Hospital, with his most recent treatment session recorded on June 3. The school had also been informed of his condition.

A police report was lodged by a teacher from the school at the Durian Tunggal Police Station on the night of the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. - July 10, 2026
