Preliminary investigations found that two male students, aged 13 and 14, had allegedly thrown pieces of ice several times at the suspect, who is a Form One student.

ALOR GAJAH: A secondary school student allegedly chased two schoolmates while wielding a rectractable utility knife after becoming enraged at being repeatedly pelted with ice in an incident at a secondary school in the district.

Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Ahmad Abu Bakar said the incident occurred at about 2.50 pm yesterday while a programme was being held at the school’s open hall.

He said preliminary investigations found that two male students, aged 13 and 14, had allegedly thrown pieces of ice several times at the suspect, who is a Form One student.

“The suspect then took a utility knife from his pencil case before chasing one of the victims for about 50 metres to the school’s surau. The incident was also captured on the school’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras,” he said when contacted today.

According to him, two other male students who were with the victims also fled the scene for fear that they would become targets of the suspect.

Ahmad said a teacher, however, managed to persuade the suspect to put down the utility knife he was holding, while the two victims returned to the hall after the situation was brought under control with no injuries reported.

“The suspect’s family was also called to the school before taking the student home. Investigations found that all the students involved had disciplinary records dating back to early this year.

“The suspect has also been receiving treatment at the Psychiatry and Mental Health Department of Melaka Hospital, with his last treatment session recorded on June 3. The school was also aware of his condition,” he said.

He said a police report on the incident was lodged by a teacher at a police station last night, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
