A pall of gloom descended over the Kashawari area of Kullu district following the mysterious death of a 14-year-old schoolgirl on Wednesday. The victim, a resident of Deogara village, was a Class IX student at the Government Senior Secondary School in Chhamahan. According to police reports, the incident occurred in the morning when the girl left for school with her friends.

Sources stated that while the group was walking, they reached the Nanda Poojo forest area. The girl told her friends she needed to use washroom and stepped off the path. Her friends continued walking, expecting her to catch up shortly. When she failed to return after 10 minutes, her worried friends retraced their steps to search for her. They ultimately discovered her lifeless body in the forest. Upon receiving information, a police team rushed to the scene. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination and later handed over to the grieving family. Kullu Superintendent of Police (SP) Madan Lal Kaushal confirmed that the cause of death was yet to be determined. “We are conducting a thorough probe, keeping all possible angles in mind,” he said. — OC
