Selangor’s Muhammad Haris Mohd Rezal wins men’s 1m springboard gold at SUKMA 2026, upsetting national divers Nurqayyum and Yong Rui Jie in his final Games.
DIVER Muhammad Haris Mohd Rezal marked his final Malaysia Games (SUKMA) appearance in style today by returning to the top of the podium after eight years, clinching the men’s one-metre (m) springboard gold at the Selangor 2026 edition here.
The 21-year-old, who represents Selangor, accumulated 353.80 points to claim gold and upset national divers Nurqayyum Nazmi Mohamad Nazim and Yong Rui Jie, both of whom represent the Federal Territories, at the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre.
Nurqayyum (347.70pts) took silver and Yong Rui Jie (336.15pts) the bronze.
The victory marked Muhammad Haris’ return to the SUKMA podium after his previous gold at the 2018 Perak edition, when he teamed up with his elder brother, Muhammad Syahmi, to win the men’s 10m synchronised platform event.
Having started diving at the age of six, Muhammad Haris said the gold was especially meaningful as it came in his final SUKMA appearance and was a tribute to his family for their unwavering support throughout his journey.
Muhammad Haris, who is coached by former national diver Rossharisham Roslan, hoped the victory would open the door for him to finally represent Malaysia.
“I have never represented the national squad. I would love to compete for Malaysia and hope I get the opportunity to make an appearance at the SEA Games or Commonwealth Games one day,” he told reporters.
The 2026 Selangor SUKMA, which kicked off Aug 15, will run until Aug 24.
