KUALA LUMPUR — Sunway Theme Parks is currently working closely with relevant authorities and giving full cooperation in a police investigation into a rollercoaster accident at Sunway Lagoon on Saturday that injured 10 people.
The company in a statement this evening expressed deep regret over the incident on the night of August 22, saying that their thoughts are with those affected and their families.
“The safety and well-being of our guests are our highest priority. Since the incident, our immediate focus has been on the care, medical needs and well-being of those affected.
“We have provided the necessary medical assistance and support, and remain in close contact with the guests and their families,” the company said.
Sunway Theme Parks said it would continue to provide its full assistance to the authorities and support to those who were affected.
“Sunway Theme Parks takes this matter extremely seriously. We remain firmly committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety across our attractions and facilities,” it added.
The company’s official statement on the incident comes after Sunway Group founder Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah confirmed the accident to the New Straits Times earlier today.
He also said the incident “may be attributable to metal fatigue”, adding that the particular ride affected had been temporarily closed for inspection and maintenance a few weeks ago.
The incident came to light after a video circulated on social media showing a woman being carried on a stretcher in a theme park environment.
Police yesterday confirmed that 10 people had been injured in a rollercoaster incident at 9pm on Saturday at a theme park in Subang Jaya. Those injured were treated at nearby hospitals.
A police report on the incident was only lodged at 11.45 am the next day, on Sunday.
Earlier today, Subang Umno chief Datuk Dr Armand Azha Abu Hanifah urged the theme park operator to be transparent about the incident after three days of silence, stressing that there was no agenda to tarnish any company’s reputation, but that public concerns should be addressed. — August 25, 2026
