Super League: best pals to go head-to-head in match

KUALA NERUS – The Super League clash between Terengganu FC (TFC) and Selangor FC at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium tomorrow night, is expected to steal the spotlight as two good friends are set to meet in opposing dugouts.

In the match, Nafuzi Zain who has been with The Turtles for three seasons will lead his team into battle against The Red Giants, led by interim head coach Nidzam Jamil who is also his best pal.

Nidzam took over as interim coach after German coach Michael Fitchtenbeiner gave up his post  following Selangor FC’s poor performance this season.

According to Nafuzi, the much-anticipated match was expected to test his charges’ ability to keep their winning momentum going after successfully defeating Sarawak United FC last Saturday.

“I was so looking forward to playing against Selangor because when I became TFC’s interim head coach in 2019, my first match was against Felda United FC, coached by Nidzam.

“Now, we will meet again in Nidzam’s first match as Selangor’s caretaker coach,” he said when met yesterday.

Meanwhile, Nafuzi expressed concern about the injury woes that still plaguing some of his players.

This, he said would give an advantage to the opponents who would be on a “revenge mission” after losing to his team in the first round of the Super League season last April.

“Although we haven’t lost to Selangor FC since 2019, we should not be complacent with that record.

“As a good friend of his, I believe Nidzam has his own strategy. This is his first game as Selangor’s interim head coach and he must be working hard to achieve success,” said the 44-year-old Kelantan-born coach. – Bernama, August 16, 2022
