POLICE have arrested a suspect in the fatal stabbing of a Parañaque City resident who was livestreaming on social media while doing laundry, with investigators looking into a years-old grudge as a possible motive.
The suspect, identified only by the alias "Omay," was arrested at around 9 p.m. on Monday, June 1, in Singkamas village, Makati City, according to the Southern Police District.
The arrest stemmed from the killing of alias “Tata,” 45, in Silverio Compound, San Isidro village, Parañaque City, on May 28.
Police said the victim was using a cellphone for a social media livestream while washing clothes at around 2:30 p.m. when the suspect allegedly approached from behind and launched the attack.
Authorities said the suspect allegedly slit the victim’s throat and repeatedly stabbed the victim before fleeing.
Relatives immediately brought the victim to Uni-Health Parañaque Hospital and Medical Center for treatment.
The victim was declared dead at 3:41 p.m.
Investigators said a long-standing personal grudge may have triggered the killing.
According to the police investigation, the suspect allegedly harbored resentment over teasing and mocking attributed to the victim dating back to Dec. 31, 2023.
Authorities said the unresolved dispute may have escalated over time and become the motive for the attack.
Police personnel from the San Dionisio Police Sub-Station, Investigation Section, and Intelligence Section launched follow-up operations after the incident.
Through intelligence validation and tracking efforts, authorities traced the suspect to Makati City, where the arrest occurred.
The suspect was brought to the San Dionisio Police Substation for documentation and proper disposition.
A murder complaint is being prepared for filing before the Parañaque City Prosecutor’s Office through inquest proceedings.
