A SUSPENDED policewoman, identified as Inspector Sheila, was arrested yesterday after allegedly causing a disturbance during the Thaipusam celebrations at Batu Caves, police have confirmed.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the woman, whose full name is Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, was detained under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duties and was remanded for one day.
“The arrest was made following an altercation between the woman and traders near the temple,” Khalid told reporters during a community policing programme held at the Sri Subramaniar Swamy temple in Batu Caves.
“A woman known as Sheila was arrested yesterday after an incident that could have caused a disturbance.
“We obtained a one-day remand under Section 186 for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for actions intended to insult the modesty of an individual,” New Straits Times reported him adding.
Khalid said the case remains under further investigation.
The arrest followed the circulation of a video on social media that went viral, showing the suspended officer allegedly creating a commotion at the temple grounds during the religious festivities.
In the footage, Inspector Sheila, dressed in a black shirt and shorts, is seen being handcuffed by two female police officers as onlookers gathered nearby. - February 1, 2026
