Taiwan team pledges to return with more players

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Soft Tennis Association (SSTA) lost 7-12 to Yanshuei Elementary School from Taiwan in the friendly match held at the Likas Tennis Courts recently.

SSTA’s points were delivered by Louis Ho, Abraham Chung, Mason Lo, Allyson Faustina Fendy Mojikol,Tan Koh Xyn in the singles and the doubles pairing of Louise Ho and Abraham Chung, Sherbelle Chung and Allyson Faustina Fendy Mojikol.

AdvertisementThe visiting team who were here for a joint training programme with SSTA was earlier given a welcoming dinner at the Kinabalu Club upon their arrival.

They also paid a visit to SKJC St James where they were welcomed by a lion dance performance.

SSTA’s head coach KK Chin said apart from visiting some tourist hot spots in the city, they also attended a very memorable session of gamelan music experience at University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) conducted by Dr Jinky Jane C Simeon.

“They were very impressed by our hospitality and promised to come back again next year with more students,” he said.

AdvertisementMeanwhile, KK Chin will lead a 10-member squad to Tainan this Sunday for a four-day training stint at Nan-Ning Senior High School and Yanshuei Elementary School.

The players in the team are Jayden Jay Ng, Wee Jian Fang, Ayden Ho Ming Xuan, Louis Ho Ming Kang, Mason Lo Hoe Jun, Amelia Lo Wei Qi, Amanda Sophie Ng, Michah Joel Lai, Abby Siaw Mei Qi and Makayla Lai Chang Li.

They will be accompanied by team officials Wee Siau Wei, Jessica Chin and Beverly Koh.

SSTA president Justin Liew Vun Shin also expressed his gratitude to Malaysia Soft Tennis Association president Dato Shamshuzaman Sulaiman for his support and partial sponsorship for the trip.
