
TAWAU: A 62-year-old Pan Borneo Highway construction worker lost his life after being struck by a Perodua Viva allegedly driven at high speed at Km 32, Jalan Tawau-Kunak, here, Thursday.
Acting Tawau District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said the victim was working with two colleagues when the incident happened.
The impact threw the victim 27 meters, and he was declared dead at the scene by a medical officer from Balung Health Clinic.
The victim’s co-workers and the 23-year-old Viva driver were unharmed.

The Viva driver, en route to Tawau Hospital from Kunak, was reportedly speeding and attempting to overtake two vehicles.
The driver is believed to have lost control, causing the car to skid into the opposite lane and strike the victim who was working on the left shoulder of the road.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
