The sound of wedding bells is currently being drowned out by the noise of trucks revving up outside Madison Square Garden, as preparations are in full swing for the marriage of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.
The arena has been a flurry of activity over the past few days, as the pop star’s wedding celebrations with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end will kick off today (Thursday, July 2).
Blacked-out SUVs believed to be carrying the happy couple arrived at the venue around 4 p.m. Thursday.
It is believed that a rehearsal dinner for 100 guests will take place at the arena’s Infosys Theater before the big day Friday, where a cocktail hour will be held before the wedding ceremony at 5.30 p.m.
A reception is expected to conclude proceedings, with up to 1,000 guests anticipated to attend and dance the night away, celebrating Swift and Kelce’s “Love Story” until the early hours.
There has been speculation that the couple may be “already married” after exchanging vows in front of what the publication calls a “tiny group of loved ones,” according to the New York Post.

New podcast episodes normally drop Wednesdays at 7 p.m. — and if the new episode drops Friday at 7 p.m., Travis and Taylor will have already been officially married, as the ceremony is set to kick off at 5:30 p.m.
As Swifties in the comments of the posts guess Austin Swift (Taylor’s brother) or Scott Swift (Taylor’s dad) will make his podcast debut, others are joking about the timing of the announcement.
“We don't have time tomorrow. We are on wedding watch,” one fan wrote. Another teased, “I think there’s something else happening on Friday.”

However, in response to teammate Jeremy Sochan joking that he was snubbed from the invite list, Hart wrote on X Thursday afternoon: “lol bro this fake news.”

In the clip, Gomez was seen dressed up in a black outfit with dangly earrings and a smoky eye as she put on her Rare Beauty lipstick.

20:16 , Ellie MuirThe couple donated $26 million to at least 20 charity organizations, including food banks, music education programs and children’s hospitals in the days before they are set to tie the knot, according to a representative.
Recipient charities include New York Cares, Nashville’s The Store and Rhode Island Community Food Bank, all in cities that mean something to the couple.
They also donated to After-School All-Stars in Kelce’s hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, Helping Harvest in Swift’s hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Kansas City’s Children’s Mercy Hospital.
The list of recipients also includes national charities like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, ASPCA, Feeding America and Grammy In The Schools.

Taylor Swift is 'not building a castle' inside Madison Square Garden
19:38 , Ellie MuirIt had been reported that Swift’s team would be building a “castle” inside the New York arena, but People reports that won’t be happening.
A source told the publication that they have “carpets and canopies, and it looks like a place where you'd get married.”
“There's a stage set up, but it's special,” they said.
The Independent reporters spotted full-size trees being loaded into the venue Wednesday.
Black equipment boxes were also spotted, including one that was labeled “Garden Party” in purple. Another box read “Mirror Ball.”
Taylor Swift’s wedding schedule revealed
19:24 , Tom MurrayThe Associated Press has obtained a copy of a city permit that shows 100 guests will begin arriving at Madison Square Garden on Thursday for a “pre party celebration” at 6:30 p.m., which officials described as an intimate rehearsal dinner.
A full street closure will then go into effect near the Manhattan arena overnight as crews erect multiple entrance and drive through tents, according to the permit.
The “main event” will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, the permit shows, and can continue until 4 a.m. the next morning.

Why MSG? A Taylor Swift expert wades in
18:58 , Tom MurraySwift and Kelce’s decision to marry at Madison Square Garden in New York City on one of the busiest weekends of the year has raised eyebrows from some. Streets around the venue are closed and a former city official estimated the wedding could cost New Yorkers millions in policing and cleanup expenses.
However, speaking to The Independent’s Music Editor Roisin O’Connor, Harvard Professor Stephanie Burt thinks it makes total sense. Burt made headlines in 2024 when she launched a seminar on Swift at Harvard. She published a book last year titled Taylor’s Version: The Poetic and Musical Genius of Taylor Swift.
“She’s marrying a guy who wants to go back to the NFL in September, which means he has to be in training in August… which means if she wants a honeymoon, she’s got a fairly short window to do a big wedding,” Professor Burt pointed out.
“I think she had to do it in early July. I also think she really likes [the holiday] 4 July – before the first Trump term, she threw annual July 4th parties at her place in Westerly!”
Burt admitted she was surprised to learn the wedding was being held at Madison Square Garden until she learned about “how good the facilities are at MSG for practical things like crowd control, tunnels, security, and getting people and things in and out of the building without getting mobbed by paparazzi and irrational fans”.
“Given the initial decision to do a big ceremony, MSG seems like a good choice,” she said. “Also a lot of her friends live in NYC: imagine the carbon footprint if 100 of her pals decided to fly to a remote location. I’m glad she’s not doing a destination wedding!”

Will Taylor swift change her name?
18:29 , Tom MurrayWell, it feels unlikely given that her name is literally her brand.
However, the Daily Mail, citing an “insider,” reports that Swift is planning to legally change her name to Taylor Kelce but will remain Taylor Swift on stage.
“In her personal life, the idea of being Taylor Kelce is something she genuinely looks forward to,” the insider told the Mail. “She sees it as a meaningful step, especially knowing it would also be the family name their future children would share.”
Take that with a pinch of salt, obviously. Time will tell.

Why is Taylor Swift getting married at MSG? - expert commentary
16:32 , Roisin O'ConnorMany eyebrows were raised when it emerged that Taylor and Travis were eyeing up Madison Square Garden as their chosen location to get married.
More so when it was revealed that the celebrations would be taking place on 4 July weekend, one of the busiest few days in New York City.
Professor Stephanie Burt argues that the venue makes sense, particularly for a pop star for whom security is of the utmost importance... and timing is everything.
“She's marrying a guy who wants to go back to the NFL in September, which means he has to be in training in August... which means if she wants a honeymoon she's got a fairly short window to do a big wedding,” Professor Burt says.

“I don't think she thought at all about whether she'd be upstaging anything, though it will be quite a "knows how to do a public event" vs "doesn't know to do it" contrast.” (Trump’s 250th celebrations have flopped).
Prof Burt adds: “I was surprised to learn that she chose MSG in NYC for the ceremony until I learned how good the facilities are at MSG for practical things like crowd control, tunnels, security, and getting people and things in and out of the building without getting mobbed by paparazzi and irrational fans.

Why New York feels like the happiest place on earth this summer
16:14 , Tom MurrayNew York City is currently experiencing an unparalleled wave of euphoria, bathed in the orange-and-blue glow of a Knicks championship and the collective joy of World Cup fans spilling from its bars into the streets. This singular moment, marked by confetti, fireworks, and parades, reinforces the city's long-held claim as the center of the universe.
Amidst this vibrant backdrop, one might wonder if any other location could be more fitting should a certain pop idol choose this island for her vows.

15:32 , Roisin O'ConnorWhen did Taylor and Travis get engaged?
15:02 , Roisin O'ConnorThe world’s biggest pop star and her “guy on the Chiefs” announced their engagement in August last year.
The couple announced the news with a series of Instagram photos showing Kelce on one knee under an arch of roses in the center of a garden.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the joint post was captioned.
A close-up photo showed off the massive engagement ring, a round brilliant-cut old mine diamond bezel-set in yellow gold, according to Vogue. Kelce himself worked with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry to design the ring.
Swift, 35, was clad in a cream-colored Polo Ralph Lauren dress with black stripes and tan block heels accessorized with a diamond-encrusted Cartier Santos Demoiselle Quartz watch, while Kelce, also 35, opted to match his soon-to-be-bride in a Polo Ralph Lauren navy knit with khaki shorts and loafers.

Taylor Swift expert on what the star's music tells us about her views on love
14:41 , Roisin O'ConnorProfessor Stephanie Burt has observed Taylor’s songwriting themes evolve over time, even if she already proved she had “a good sense of herself” from her debut album.
“She's written wonderful songs about how it feels to be in a romance that's a bad idea; superb songs about how and when to get out of that romance; and at least a handful of very good ones (’Paper Rings,’ ‘New Year's Day’ and ‘Opalite’ come to mind) about how it feels to get seriously romantically involved with a hot guy you can also trust to support you,” she explains.
“One through line: throw yourself into romance if you like, but don't let your romantic partner separate you from the other things that give your life meaning. There are greater things to do and more important things to do, for her and for anyone else, than marrying the guy on the football team. Even if you are, literally, marrying the guy on the football team.”
Who are Taylor's bridesmaids going to be?
14:36 , Roisin O'ConnorGiven Taylor’s lucky number is 13, you can bet that’ll be represented at least a few ways across this weekend’s celebrations.
Biographer Anna Pointer told The Mirror that this could extend to the number of bridesmaids she has, predicting she’ll enlist best friend Lena Dunham (Swift was a bridesmaid at the Girls creator’s wedding in 2021), her bestie and fellow pop star Selena Gomez, the three Haim sisters - Este, Alana and Danielle, Emma Stone, Gigi Hadid, her childhood best friend Abigail, friend Ashley Avignone, and Travis’s four nieces. Which makes for 13!
How Travis Kelce won over the world's biggest pop star
14:01 , Roisin O'ConnorTaylor Swift has happily regaled fans with tales of how she was wooed by Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Speaking on his podcast, New Heights, in 2023, the NFL star shared how he tried — and failed — to give Swift his number after attending one of her Eras tour concerts, even going so far as to make her a friendship bracelet.
Clearly, word got back to Swift – as she turned up to support him at one of his games just months later. In her recent guest appearance on New Heights, where she announced the forthcoming release of her next album, she remarked: “It felt [like] I was in an Eighties John Hughes movie, and he was standing outside of my window with a boombox saying, ‘I want to date you! Do you want to go on a date with me?’”
“I was like, ‘If this guy’s not crazy, this is sort of what I’ve been writing songs about wanting to happen to me since I was a teenager,’” she added.
Kelce’s all-caps enthusiasm is something that Brits seem to view as uncouth (personally, I quite enjoy it), and in general the idea of the “big gesture” – from baby gender reveals to proposals and even asking out dates to the prom – is arguably far more prevalent in the States. He also seems far more comfortable, even while admitting it’s a learning curve, with the absurd attention that comes with being with the world’s most famous woman.

Taylor Swift expert reveals her predictions for the wedding
13:46 , Roisin O'ConnorProfessor Stephanie Burt, who famously created a hugely popular Taylor Swift seminar at Harvard University, tells me the wedding that she thinks the wedding is going to be “big and fun to watch”.
“I hope Swifties can watch it at some point-- on the Internet somewhere if not live,” she said. She also predicts that there will be “several” live music performances... “probably including Gracie Abrams and at least one performer older than Taylor.” And expect plenty of “cheering NFLers, including Jason Kelce, who will probably be in the wedding party”.
“I suspect she'll avoid fairytale symbolism of the kind that we saw on her first few records, because that's not who she is any more,” Prof Burt added.

On Friday, doors for the wedding open at 3:30 p.m., followed by a cocktail hour at 4 p.m. on the 6th-floor concourse.

Pink carpet, lobster meat and trees spotted in deliveries to MSG
11:02 , Roisin O'ConnorTaylor Swift appears to be turning Madison Square Garden into a fairytale wonderland for her wedding celebrations, as lobster, tree branches and pink carpet are among the items we’ve observed being carried into the venue.
Tall tree branches and greenery, presumed to be decorations, were spotted being loaded into the arena alongside black trash bags containing equipment. Some of the vehicles belonged to the production company Upstaged, which has worked with Swift before to transport staging for her concert tours. Several trucks were also seen full of audio systems and stage equipment, along with some boxes that were labeled “Garden Party.”
TMZ is reporting that a giant castle is being built inside the venue, which could explain the carpenters moving in and out of the arena.
Security guards and police officers are carefully guarding all entrances to the 22,000-capacity arena, and vehicles are being driven directly into the basement of the facility.

'Taylor Swift is engaged to the all-American Travis Kelce, and it makes so much sense'
10:33 , Roisin O'ConnorBack when Swift and Kelce announced their engagement in August last year, I wrote something on why, in spite of the pop star’s apparent fondness for an English (or, once, Scottish) accent, it made more sense for her to end up with the all-American “guy on the Chiefs” - the man who was able to give her the John Hughes moment she’d always wanted.

When is Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's wedding, and who's going?
09:52 , Roisin O'ConnorThe New York Times reports that Swift and Kelce are planning to host a smaller gathering of 100 people at Madison Square Garden — an arena that seats up to 19,500 people — on 2 July for the dress rehearsal, then the ceremony featuring the same 100 guests on Friday 3 July. This is expected to be followed by a second event at the arena for about 1,000 guests on the evening of July 3, according to two sources with knowledge of the matter.
Among the guests confirmed to attend the wedding is Swift’s longtime friend, Suki Waterhouse. Opening up about planning her own nuptials with fiancé Robert Pattinson, Waterhouse told Variety: “I’m gonna go to Taylor’s wedding, and maybe I’ll get some inspiration. It will be amazing.”
Other celebrities expected to attend include Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Gigi Hadid, Zoë Kravitz, Cara Delevingne, Jack Antonoff, Emma Stone, Gracie Abrams, Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and San Francisco 49ers player George Kittle.
