
TAWAU: A teenager drowned while swimming at the Balung River Eco Resort along Jalan Apas, about 24 miles from town, on Wednesday.
The 16-year-old was found trapped between rocks about 50 metres from where he was last seen, in water about three feet deep, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.
The emergency call was received at 3.24pm, and a team of 10 firefighters from the Tawau station arrived at the scene an hour later.
Rescuers recovered the boy’s body at 5.35pm before handing it over to the police for further action.
Seven other personnel, including officers, were also at the scene to assist with the investigation and crowd control.
