SANDAKAN: A 19-year-old man was fined RM5,000 or jailed five months in default by the Magistrate’s Court, here, for cyberbullying, after sending obscene material to the father of a female acquaintance.
Muhammad Amrullah Mohd Asrul pleaded guilty before Magistrate Yong Ching Hong to committing the offence between 4.37pm and 11.09pm on August 31 this year.
The court heard that the complainant, the 21-year-old woman’s father, received the material via WhatsApp while he was at home.
Amrullah had sent the complainant a photo of his daughter along with a four-second obscene video depicting parts of her body.
The victim had never consented to the distribution of her identity or the obscene material. The circulation of her private details caused her significant emotional distress.
A police report was lodged, and Amrullah was later tracked down and arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Sabah Police Headquarters.
He was charged under Section 507E of the Penal Code, which criminalises the disclosure of a person’s identity with the intent to cause distress.
