A 17-year-old boy died after his motorcycle collided with another while attempting an overtaking manoeuvre in Hulu Besut

JERTIH: A teenage boy was killed in a motorcycle collision in Kampung Telaga Nibong, Hulu Besut. The 17-year-old, identified as Muhammad Haziq Azman, died at the scene following the crash at 11.30 am.

Besut district police chief Supt Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said the victim was a chicken sales assistant. The other motorcyclist, a 35-year-old man, sustained only minor injuries.

Preliminary investigations indicate the older rider was on a Honda EX5 travelling from Kampung Gong Nering. He had slowed down and signalled to turn left at a T-junction.

“But at the same time, the victim, on a Honda Wave 125 came from behind and tried to overtake the Honda EX5,” Supt Mohd Rozaime said in a statement.

The victim’s motorcycle grazed the Honda EX5 during the overtaking attempt. This caused him to lose control and skid onto the road shoulder.

His motorcycle then struck a pipe by the roadside. The victim’s body was sent to the forensics unit at Besut Hospital for a post-mortem.

Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1997. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the crash to come forward to assist the investigation.
