
PITAS: Two teenage cousins were injured after jumping from a window while trying to escape a fire involving two houses at Kampung Dandun here early Tuesday.
The victims, aged 18 and 13, are students in Form Six and Form One respectively at a secondary school here and suffered minor injuries to their legs after jumping about two metres from the house.
Pitas Fire and Rescue Station chief Noor Jali Maslah said seven personnel and a fire engine were deployed to the scene, about 23km away, after receiving an emergency call at 4.55am.
He said both non-permanent houses were completely destroyed, leaving two families comprising 12 people without homes.
Noor Jali said firefighters ensured there were no remaining embers or other hazards before operations ended at 8.24am, while the cause of the fire and estimated losses remained under investigation.
